Our history
A long-standing presence marked by the merging of French and local banks
Indosuez group’s history in the countries of the Levant, and particularly Lebanon, is the fruit of a long tradition of ties between French and local banks.
Our original presence dates back to 1931, when Compagnie Algérienne de Crédit et de Banque opened its first branches in Lebanon.
This French bank later joined the Suez group and in 1967 their combined offices formed a fully-fledged Lebanese entity, Banque Libano-Française.
Meanwhile, in 1954, Banque de l’Indochine, another of our illustrious antecedents, took its first steps in Lebanon through affiliates such as Crédit Foncier d’Algérie et de Tunisie, Bank Sabbag in Beirut and Société de Banque. This platform would make it possible for the establishment of a direct subsidiary after Banque Indosuez was created in 1975.
Our Group’s contemporary history in Lebanon began in 1989, when Banque Française de l’Orient was established by Banque Indosuez, Banque Libano-Française, Hariri Group and Saudia Fransi.
In 1995, it contributed to the creation of Indosuez Capital Moyen-Orient, an entity dedicated to developing investment banking and corporate finance activities in the region.
Crédit Agricole Indosuez Liban was created in 1997, after Banque Indosuez became part of Crédit Agricole group.
Today, all of Crédit Agricole Group’s Wealth Management expertise shares the Indosuez Wealth Management brand.
